More About the Author

Gordon McManus was born in Burma in 1952. He came to Britain in 1964. He was primarily educated at Tulse Hill Comprehensive School from 1965 to 1970. In 1971 he enrolled at Kingsway College of Further Education. He was a founder member of the first Black Student Society at further education level in 1972-73. He entered the University of Essex from 1974 to 1977 where he graduated. He was the Chair of the Third World Society First from 1974 to 1975. He was also a member of the Black Student Society at Essex. In 1980 he joined the New Communist Party (NCP)and was expelled a year later for supporting Lenin's principle of "paper aimed at the level of the advanced workers". In 1982 he joined Proletarian which was formed from comrades who had been expelled from the NCP. He was a central committee member among other things. In 1986 he became Chair of Lambeth Anti-Apartheid Group. He left Proletarian in 1987. Gordon McManus now writes on world affairs with special reference to Britain.
